Setting up your custom domain

Overview

Qatalog offers the flexibility to set up a custom domain for a more seamless and branded experience for your organization. By following these simple steps, you can configure a subdomain to access Qatalog from your organization’s website.

For Qatalog Admins

Configure Custom Domain in Qatalog Settings

• Log in to your Qatalog account.
• Navigate to the "Settings" and click on the "Customization" section.
• Locate the option for "Custom Domain".
• Enter your custom domain within the "custom.yourwebite.com" input bar and save the changes. Make sure to type the full subdomain along with the domain. (we recommend “ask.companydomain.com”)

For IT Teams:

Step 1: Access DNS Provider

• Log in to your DNS provider's website (e.g., GoDaddy, Namecheap, or Cloudflare).
• Find the domain management or DNS settings section.

Step 2: Create a CNAME Record

1. Look for the option to add a new record and select "CNAME" as the record type.
2. In the "Name" or "Host" field, enter your desired subdomain (e.g. “ask”)
3. In the "Value" or "Points to" field, input “custom.qatalog.com” (without quotes)
4. Save or update the DNS settings.

Step 3: Wait for the DNS Propogation

Changes to DNS settings may take some time to propagate across the internet. This process can typically take up to 48 hours, although it often occurs much faster. In that time your org can continue to use the original URL until the connection is established.

Once the DNS is updated, then your organization’s CNAME will be verified. The next time your users use Qatalog, they will be automatically redirected to the custom domain. There is no blackout period during this process.

Troubleshooting Tips:

• Clear Browser Cache: After DNS propagation, clear your browser cache to ensure the new settings take effect.
• Verify DNS Configuration: Double-check your DNS records to confirm they match the provided instructions.
• Contact Support: If you encounter any issues, reach out to Qatalog support for assistance.
